Google has always been shy to give out information to webmasters concerning the reasons behind penalties or changes in their website’s search ranking. They often tread a thin line by trying not to give Blackhats information about how the algorithm works but also trying to give webmasters who play by their rules some information too. Unfortunately, I and many others often feel that Google falls short on communicating enough information for webmasters when they get into deep water with the algorithm. It is often the small business owner with little SEO and marketing knowledge to try and pick up the pieces in the event of triggering a penalty they do not fully understand.
With this in mind I attended the English Google Webmaster Central office-hours hangout with John Mueller on the 25th of September 2015 and asked John Mueller:
Are there any future plans to communicate more information on manual and automatic penalties in the Search Console?
“I think it would be nice to have more information about that in Search Console but at the moment we don’t have any plans to roll anything specific out there.”
I’ll be attending future Google Hangouts so if you would like me to ask questions on your behalf then let me know in the comments or on Twitter.
